Around 1900, the GGTC was formed. Social tennis matches were played on a clay surface court near the Golden Grove township. Tennis resumed after World War 1 in 1919 on two clay courts. Matches were played at Houg
hton and as far away as Virginia, Alberton, Victoria Park Racecourse.
In 1946, the GGTC moved to its present site. Land was donated by Mrs. Hanna Tilley with local farmers and friends helping level out the present four courts. Two courts were bitumised at a time.
Mrs Dorothy Tilley, a Life Member, donated the Back stops for the last 2 courts.
Since 1983 and the Golden Grove Development we have grown significantly to being the largest Tennis Club in the north east. We have outgrown our facilities and are waiting on the upgrade to Tilley Recreation Park.
Our goal is for a 12 - 14 court complex with Clubrooms and Canteen facilities
so players can relax, drink and socialise.
